Windows Phone - The Red-Headed Stepchild

Window’s phones are not a myth, a passing fancy or just a fad. They are here to stay! Unfortunately, because of their late arrival to the smartphone game, they’re quite often overlooked.

The other day I was taking a survey and it asked me which mobile device I had and they only listed an iPhone or an Android – so therefore, I wasn’t able to qualify to participate in their study (and win a $30 Target giftcard). Needless to say, I was quite disappointed! But this sort of thing happens all the time. Most apps, when developed, are only made for the two most popular phones. And part of the reason the Windows phone isn’t popular yet, is due to companies forgetting they exist when they’re developing products for smartphones.

I have had an Android, an iPhone and now my Windows phone for almost a year and the main reason I wish I could switch back to an iPhone is the general feeling of being left out and overlooked. I find that silly because my phone works great, it’s very fast, and has all the social media apps I could want – although we only just got a fully functioning Instagram app at the beginning of 2014!

Windows users are growing every day – they’re even shamelessly pushed in a lot of popular TV shows these days, like The Mindy Project, Scandal, Revenge and Arrow.

So consider this: when you’re creating your next mobile website or smartphone app – test or develop it on a Windows Phone, too!
