Author Carol S. Dweck has written an excellent book called Mindset.

In it, she explains the distinction between a "growth mind-set" and  a "fixed mind-set."

Essentially, when you subscribe to a growth mind-set, you challenge yourself to do things differently, and you actually produce a chemical in your brain that allows you to work more creatively. Dweck argues that pushing yourself -- and others -- to this level is when you become "most alive.”

Of course, most of us are naturally wary of change.

But, when we can force ourselves to embrace Dweck's way of thinking, the transformation in our personal and professional lives can be revelatory.
